Beginner definition: The percentage of coins where traders are currently being paid to bet against the market i.e. that the coin will go down in price— a sign of widespread pessimism
Current value = 26%
High values = market is more pessimistic
Values have been increasing since the beginning of January - signaling increasing fear / pessimism
Metric: % of coins outperforming BTC in the past 90 days
Red boxes = Periods where altcoins performed very well versus BTC
Good periods to sell altcoins into BTC or USD
Shorter in duration = periods where altcoins outperform BTC are generally short-lived
Current value = 25%
Low values = Not much interest in altcoins
Good periods to extremely patiently hold onto your BTC and USD, and slowly accumulate altcoins you believe are high quality
Longer in duration = periods where altcoins underperform BTC last long
Conclusion
Crypto markets remain slow
Pessimism is persistent and on the rise - this has been the trend since January and is evident in funding rates (chart #1)
A sustained, longer rally will likely need to be led by BTC
Remain patient: now is an ideal period for studying and game planning

Good read, but the real point is the combination, not the indicators in isolation. Negative funding can fuel sharp squeezes, but weak alt breadth usually means the move lacks broad participation. That is why this setup can still produce rallies, but not yet the kind of backdrop that typically supports a durable, market-wide risk-on phase.
